Photograph an artwork. Artema tells you its story.

In a few seconds, the app recognises the painting or sculpture in front of you, its artist, its period and its movement. Your discoveries join your own museum, and you share them with a community of art lovers.

Capture your emotions.

A museum gallery, The Starry Night, love at first sight. With one gesture, Artema reveals the artwork and keeps it in your personal museum.

Teaser without dialogue, with English text. In a light-filled museum gallery, a woman stops in front of Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, moved. She takes out her iPhone and photographs the painting with Artema, then smiles. End cards: “Capture your emotions.”, “Share them with the community.”, the Artema logo and “Discover the full experience at artema.app”.

How it works

Three gestures in front of any artwork

No QR codes, no kiosks: Artema works with your phone’s camera, in major museums and small collections alike.

  1. Scan screen: The Starry Night framed in the viewfinder.

    Scan

Frame the artwork with your camera, or import a photo taken during your visit. Artema recognises famous works and searches the web for those in lesser-known collections.

  2. Page for Claude Monet’s Water Lilies, 1906, with its high-resolution reproduction and the “Add to my museum” button.

    Discover

Title, artist, date, technique, movement and collection, then the story of the work, told simply. When one exists, a high-resolution reproduction replaces your photo.

  3. My museum screen: a member’s profile and the grid of artworks they have scanned, including Water Lilies, The Starry Night and The Great Wave.

    Collect and share

The artwork joins My museum, along with the name of the place where you saw it. Keep it to yourself or post it: the community can like it, comment on it and share it.

Much more than a scanner

Search, find, travel

Artema is with you before, during and after your visit, at home or on the other side of the world.

  • Search results for Van Gogh: the artist, The Starry Night, the Van Gogh Museum, Sunflowers and “Where to see the painting”.

    A search engine for art

An artwork, an artist, a museum or a city: Artema finds them, and writes a page for any name, even far from the museum.

  • Search screen with examples: Orsay, Florence, Van Gogh, the Mona Lisa and “Where can I see a painting?”.

    Find an artwork

Where can you see the Mona Lisa or Sunflowers? Artema tells you which museum holds the work, and My museum keeps every artwork you have come across, with its location.

  • Map of nearby museums, with France, Italy, Spain and Netherlands filters, and the list of the closest museums with their distance.

    Your travel companion

In Paris, Florence or Amsterdam, the map shows the museums around you, their exhibitions and opening hours. Your location stays on your phone.

Our commitments

An app that respects its members

  • Verifiable sources

Reproductions from Wikimedia Commons with their author and licence, practical information read from museums’ official websites.

  • Your location stays on your phone

Only the name of the museum or city goes with a scan, never your GPS coordinates.

  • Your photos, with your consent

A photo is sent to the identification service only if you have agreed, and you can withdraw that consent at any time.

  • AI that is labelled and correctable

Every text written by AI is labelled, and you can correct an identification.

  • A moderated community

Report and block in one tap, with reports handled within 24 hours.

  • Your data belongs to you

Delete your account and your data from the app, whenever you want.
